Public WiFi Networks

Mobilogica designs and operates large-scale public WiFi networks for councils, public infrastructure and large public precincts. These environments often require reliable wireless coverage across wide geographic areas while supporting large numbers of concurrent users.

Public WiFi networks must perform reliably under constantly changing usage conditions and remain manageable over long operational lifecycles. Mobilogica focuses on designing infrastructure that delivers consistent performance in real-world conditions rather than simply meeting design specifications.

Our work is structured around network outcomes, not SLAs, tickets or handoffs between teams. Design, deployment and complex issues remain close to senior engineers who understand the network end-to-end, ensuring infrastructure is built to operate reliably over time.

Typical Challenges

High User Density

Challenge

Public WiFi environments often experience large numbers of simultaneous users, particularly in busy public areas, waterfront precincts and major gathering spaces. Without careful design, networks can quickly become congested, resulting in slow connections and unreliable service.

Mobilogica Approach

Mobilogica designs wireless infrastructure specifically for high-density environments. Access point placement, channel planning and capacity modelling are carefully engineered to support large numbers of concurrent devices while maintaining predictable performance during peak usage periods.

Experience

Mobilogica has delivered and operated large-scale public WiFi networks across city infrastructure, waterfront precincts, libraries, parks and public gathering spaces where reliable connectivity must support a wide range of users and environments. These networks often combine outdoor coverage across large geographic areas with indoor connectivity in public facilities, requiring infrastructure that can support both public access and operational services.

Mobilogica’s involvement in large public networks dates back to supporting network infrastructure during the Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games, where large volumes of visitors, staff and operational systems required reliable connectivity across key locations. This work helped establish the foundation for ongoing deployments across the city’s public infrastructure.

Today, Mobilogica continues to design, operate and evolve the City of Gold Coast public WiFi network, which spans a wide variety of environments including libraries, parks, waterfronts and public precincts. These deployments combine public internet access with operational connectivity used by council facilities, creating networks that must support both visitor connectivity and organisational services simultaneously.

Operating a city-scale network requires infrastructure that can support large numbers of users, maintain reliable performance across diverse environments and remain manageable over long operational lifecycles. Mobilogica’s approach focuses on building networks that are engineered for real-world conditions and ongoing operation rather than simply meeting initial design requirements.

As with all Mobilogica deployments, this work is structured around network outcomes, not SLAs, tickets or handoffs between teams. Senior engineers remain closely involved in the design, operation and ongoing optimisation of the infrastructure, ensuring the network continues to perform reliably as usage patterns and public infrastructure evolve.
