Project Summary
Mobilogica has supported the development and ongoing operation of the City of Gold Coast public WiFi network, one of the largest municipal wireless deployments in the region.
The original deployment was delivered in preparation for the Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games, where reliable public connectivity was required across major visitor areas and event precincts. The network was designed to support large volumes of visitors while providing stable wireless access across some of the city’s busiest public spaces.
Following the Games, the platform was expanded into a permanent public service supporting residents and visitors across the city. Coverage was progressively extended across major public precincts including Surfers Paradise, Southport and Broadbeach, as well as high-traffic beachfront areas where public connectivity is heavily used.
The network has also been expanded to support public access within council-operated facilities such as libraries, aquatic centres and community centres, creating a diverse deployment that combines outdoor public coverage with indoor connectivity across civic locations.
Mobilogica continues to support the network through ongoing engineering involvement, ensuring the platform remains reliable and capable of supporting large numbers of users across a wide range of public environments.
Deliverables
Public Access Internet
The network provides public internet connectivity across a wide range of public environments including beachfront precincts, tourism zones and council facilities. Mobilogica designed and deployed wireless infrastructure capable of supporting large numbers of concurrent users while maintaining reliable performance across both outdoor public areas and indoor civic locations. Ongoing optimisation and monitoring ensure the platform continues to operate reliably as usage patterns evolve.
Event Network Operations
The original public WiFi deployment was delivered in preparation for the Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games, where reliable connectivity was required across major visitor areas and event locations. Mobilogica designed and deployed infrastructure capable of supporting the increased demand associated with large-scale events. Following the Games, the network was evolved into a permanent public connectivity platform supporting residents and visitors across the city.
City of Gold Coast Corporate Connectivity
In addition to public access services, the infrastructure supports connectivity across various City of Gold Coast operational facilities including libraries, aquatic centres and community centres. Mobilogica designed the network to support both public access and internal connectivity requirements while maintaining appropriate separation between services.
Backend Compute Infrastructure
Supporting a city-scale wireless deployment requires backend systems capable of handling authentication services, network management platforms and operational analytics. Mobilogica implemented and maintains the compute infrastructure required to support these systems, ensuring the platform remains scalable and capable of supporting long-term operational requirements.
Security and Compliance
Public networks must be designed to protect infrastructure while ensuring appropriate access controls and regulatory compliance. Mobilogica implemented network segmentation, access controls and monitoring capabilities that allow public connectivity services to operate securely alongside operational infrastructure used by the City.
